Kristin DeSantis Contemporary Metal

I like pushing the limit of what can be done with this medium, keeping the viewer guessing about what they are looking at - is it silver, enamels, glass, ceramic? Wow! It’s so light!

The INSPIRATION

It all started in a junkyard for Kristin. At age 35, after working in front of a computer as a graphic artist for years, she was ready to get physical. In 1999, she bought her first piece of aluminum from a scrap yard and began teaching herself how to tame it. Fast forward 20 years and what you see on this site is a culmination of trial and error, hard work and sweat, commitment, and above all, a creative vision that has pushed the boundaries of what is possible with this medium. Have a closer look, enjoy and have fun!

The TEAM

Kristin DeSantis and her husband, Marc Kriewaldt are a contemporary metal and mixed-media artistic team. Their studio is located high in the Rocky Mountains outside the small town of Allenspark, Colorado.

Kristin was born in upstate New York and has studied art since the age of eight.  After receiving her BFA in painting and illustration, she began her career as an artist in advertising and design.  She started separating from the advertising world in 1992 and today spends all her creative energy on sculpture and jewelry.

Marc was born in Illinois and trained as a chemical engineer.  He worked in the thin films trade for fifteen years before quitting his job to help Kristin full time.

Over the past 20+ years they’ve created large wall and freestanding sculptures. The most recent 5 years they’ve devoted their time and energy developing their unique line of aluminum and resin jewelry. The artistic forms come from Kristin’s imagination and Marc’s engineering background brings the concepts to fruition. Their works can be found in many private and public collections throughout the world.
